Montréal-based startup BrainBox AI has been acquired by Irish-American HVAC giant Trane Technologies for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition highlights BrainBox AI’s role in reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption in commercial buildings through its advanced AI technology. The integration of BrainBox’s automated building management tools into Trane’s platform aims to accelerate the deployment of smart building solutions globally. BrainBox AI, founded in 2017, launched its AI software in 2019, which can potentially reduce carbon emissions by up to 40% and utility costs by 25%. The company has raised over $80 million USD from investors, including Investissement Québec and Export Development Canada. Despite the acquisition, BrainBox will maintain its operations in Montréal with all 190 employees retained. The acquisition marks a significant tech exit in Québec, a province that has seen few such exits recently.
