Juniper Ventures has spun out from Climate Capital to concentrate on synthetic biology solutions for climate challenges. Founding partners Michael Luciani and Jennifer Kan, who have extensive experience in climate-related investments, are leading the new venture. Juniper aims to address significant carbon pollution contributors such as industrial processes, chemicals, plastics, and agriculture through engineered biology. The first fund has raised $10.6 million, exceeding its initial target, with contributions from family offices, foundations, and institutional investors like Allocator One. Juniper’s strategy involves making early-stage investments ranging from $100,000 to $500,000, with an emphasis on becoming the first institutional investor for scientists commercializing their research. Key early investments include California Cultured, focusing on sustainable coffee and chocolate production, and Cache DNA, working on more efficient DNA and RNA storage solutions. Juniper’s unique focus distinguishes it from Climate Capital’s generalist approach, positioning itself as a leader in climate biotech.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
