The company cited rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) as a primary reason for this decision. CEO Evan Spiegel stated that AI tools would help reduce repetitive work and increase productivity, allowing the company to move towards profitability. This move echoes a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle have also made significant job cuts while embracing AI. However, critics argue that firms might be using AI as an excuse to downsize. Snap’s stock saw a 6% increase following the announcement. The company plans to cut more than $500 million in annualized expenses as a result of the layoffs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Snap Inc, the parent company of Snapchat, announced plans to lay off approximately 1,000 employees, which accounts for about 16% of its workforce.
