The Waterfront East Transit project in Toronto has received a significant boost with the announcement of $3 billion in funding through a collaborative effort between the federal, provincial, and municipal governments. This funding will facilitate the construction of a 3.8-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line extending from Union Station to the Port Lands, passing through Queens Quay East and Cherry Street. The initiative aims to support approximately 75,000 new homes and serve over 150,000 residents and workers along Toronto’s eastern waterfront. The partnership, which includes the Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build, commits $8.8 billion over ten years to support housing-enabling infrastructure investments in Ontario, while also addressing development charges and providing incentives for new home construction. Premier Doug Ford emphasized the transformational impact of the project, highlighting its potential to deliver new homes, transit, and infrastructure, thereby creating numerous jobs for Ontarians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
