Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Toronto’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport will be designated as the province’s first special economic zone. This move is part of the province’s plan to expand the airport to include jet services, overcoming opposition from city officials. The Ford government aims to take over the city’s stake in the tripartite agreement governing the land, providing fair compensation to the City of Toronto. The special economic zone designation is intended to promote economic growth and job creation by streamlining approvals and maintaining safety standards. This initiative follows the government’s previous consideration of declaring the Ring of Fire mining region as a special economic zone, a plan paused due to opposition from First Nations communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
