Instagram, a platform under Meta, is set to introduce a new alert system aimed at notifying parents if their teens repeatedly search for terms associated with suicide or self-harm. This initiative is part of Instagram’s broader effort to protect minors from harmful content. The alerts will be sent via various communication methods, including email, text, WhatsApp, or through the parent’s Instagram account. The system requires both the teen and parent to be enrolled in Instagram\u2019s parental supervision program. This measure builds on Instagram’s existing policies that block such content from appearing in search results and directs users to supportive resources. Meta is also exploring similar alerts for interactions involving artificial intelligence, addressing concerns around AI-driven conversations related to self-harm. Despite these efforts, critics argue that Meta should address the underlying design flaws of its platforms rather than shifting responsibility to parents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
