Eidos Montreal, the Canadian developer known for acclaimed titles like Deus Ex and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, has been hit with another wave of layoffs and project cancellations under its parent company, Embracer Group. This follows previous layoffs of 75 employees earlier in the year and nearly 100 last year. Most of the studio’s projects have now been cancelled, with the focus shifting to support roles for Xbox’s Obsidian and Playground Games. An internal project from 2019 is still in development but is not expected to cover its costs. Embracer, which has acquired numerous studios in recent years, cites a failed $2 billion deal as a reason for these cuts, though it highlights ongoing corporate mismanagement. Eidos Montreal’s situation reflects broader struggles within Embracer as it continues to lay off employees across its various subsidiaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
