Shopify, the Ottawa-based e-commerce giant, has recently undergone another round of layoffs following a major C-suite shakeup and a sales fraud investigation. The company stated that the layoffs were intended to remove ‘layers that created complexity without additional merchant value.’ This restructuring appears to have affected employees in managerial roles across various teams like merchant success, operations, sales, and account executives. Although Shopify’s spokesperson, Ben McConaghy, mentioned that the cuts impacted only a fraction of a percent of its workforce, the exact number of affected employees remains unclear. These layoffs are reportedly unrelated to previous firings, which were linked to internal sales fraud. Shopify had previously fired several sales employees following an investigation into inflated sales numbers. Founded in 2006, Shopify remains Canada’s second-largest company by market capitalization. The company is also experiencing significant executive turnover, with recent departures including its former COO, Kaz Nejatian, and Chief Revenue Officer, Bobby Morrison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
