California-based startup Quilt, co-founded by Canadian CEO Paul Lambert, has expanded its smart heat pump offerings to five Canadian provinces: Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, and British Columbia. This marks Quilt’s first international expansion after establishing a presence in 14 US states. The company’s heat pumps, designed to operate in temperatures as low as –25°C, offer energy-efficient heating solutions by transferring heat rather than generating it, which could significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in Canada. The systems, customizable and controllable via an app, have garnered support from investors like Google’s Gradient Ventures and Kitchener-Waterloo’s Garage Capital. This expansion reflects a growing demand for innovative heating technologies in Canada, with startups like Vancouver-based Jetson also entering the market.
