Eugen Rochko, the creator of Mastodon, has stepped down as CEO of the decentralized social network as part of a transition to a non-profit structure. This move is aimed at ensuring Mastodon’s longevity and expanding its mission without relying on a single leader. Rochko, who has been at the helm for ten years, cited burnout as a factor in his decision to step aside. The organization will now be governed by a board of directors, including notable figures such as Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. The transition will unlock new funding opportunities, particularly in Europe, and is expected to make Mastodon more financially sustainable. The change comes as Mastodon continues to position itself as an alternative to platforms controlled by billionaires.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
