Google has been involved in a controversial project on Christmas Island, an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, which has sparked discussions about its intentions. Initially reported by Reuters, the project was suspected to be a large AI data center linked to military strategies against Chinese naval activities. However, Google has denied these claims, asserting that the project is part of the Australia Connect initiative aimed at enhancing digital connectivity through subsea cable infrastructure. The Bosun subsea cable, a key component of this initiative, will connect Darwin, Australia, to Christmas Island, and extend to Singapore. This effort is aligned with improving digital pathways across the Indo-Pacific region. Despite Google’s clarifications, the debate continues as Reuters stands by its initial report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
