Arbor Energy, founded by former SpaceX engineers, has raised $55 million in a Series A funding round led by Lowercarbon Capital and Voyager Ventures. The company is known for its innovative power plant technology that initially focused on burning plant waste to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Recently, Arbor has pivoted to include natural gas as a fuel source, broadening its energy production capabilities to meet the rising electricity demands from data centers. Despite this shift, Arbor remains committed to carbon capture, utilizing oxy-combustion technology to transform hydrocarbons into syngas, which is then burned with pure oxygen, resulting in CO2 that is easier to sequester. The startup is building a biomass-burning power plant in Louisiana, funded in part by a $41 million deal with Frontier, a partnership backed by companies like Stripe and Google. Arbor aims to reduce the climate impact of its power generation by working with natural gas providers certified for low leakage rates, targeting emissions below 100 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
