Impulse Space, an in-space propulsion startup founded by former SpaceX executive Tom Mueller, is pioneering a new era of satellite transport with its Helios kick stage system. This innovative approach promises to reduce the transit time for satellites to geostationary orbit (GEO) from months to just hours. Impulse has struck several significant deals to showcase this capability, including a demonstration mission with defense contractor Anduril, set for 2026, which will involve building a demo satellite for rendezvous and proximity operations. Additionally, a transportation deal with GEO communications startup Astranis in 2027 and a multi-launch agreement with France’s Infinite Orbits further solidify Impulse’s commitment to fast-tracking satellite deployment to GEO. The Helios system, characterized by its methane-oxygen propulsion, aims to provide ‘same-day’ delivery from low Earth orbit (LEO) to GEO, offering commercial operators faster access to higher orbits and enhancing the Department of Defense’s operational capabilities in space. This advancement is significant as the space industry shifts focus from LEO to GEO for its next growth phase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
