Ontario is set to invest nearly $62 million in Geraldton to begin building a road to the mineral-rich Ring of Fire region, located 500 kilometers north of Thunder Bay. This infrastructure project aims to connect Highway 11 with Highway 584 and facilitate sustained truck traffic for mining activities. Despite backing from Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Mark Carney, the project has faced resistance from First Nations concerned about being overlooked. The government has committed to ensuring partnerships with First Nations communities, with an emphasis on consultation. The road will also connect Webequie and Marten Falls First Nations to the provincial highway system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
