Ottawa Invests $15 Million in Ontario Defence Tech with CDL and Wolf
News Summary
The Canadian federal government has announced its first Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII) investments in Ontario, totaling $15 million. This funding includes nearly $7 million CAD in non-repayable funding for Toronto’s Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) to support its new defence accelerator, and over $8 million in a repayable contribution to Aurora-based Wolf Advanced Technology. The aim is to enhance Canada’s domestic defence industrial base and reduce reliance on the US. Evan Solomon, Minister of AI and Digital Innovation, highlighted the importance of CDL Defence in supporting startups with dual-use technology for defence, national security, and critical infrastructure. CDL Defence, which collaborates with locations across Canada and Europe, is designed to assist startups in team building, fundraising, and integrating into supply chains. Wolf Advanced Technology, specializing in high-performance computing systems for aerospace and defence, will use the funding to develop sovereign defence components within Canada.
