Novoloop Advances Upcycled Plastic Production with New Manufacturing Deal
News Summary
Plastic recycling startup Novoloop has taken a significant step towards commercial production by securing a deal with Huide Science and Technology to supply a chemical building block for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). This agreement marks a crucial phase for the Menlo Park-based company, which specializes in transforming post-consumer polyethylene waste into valuable polyol, a key component in TPU used across various industries, including footwear and medical devices. Novoloop’s co-founder and CEO, Miranda Wang, highlighted the importance of such deals in overcoming the economic challenges faced by climate tech startups. The startup has already commissioned a demonstration plant in India, capable of producing tens of tons of polyol annually, paving the way for major pilot projects. By 2028, Novoloop aims to have a commercial plant operational, with plans to produce enough polyols for 16,000 tons of TPU annually, achieving price parity with virgin TPUs.
