Anna Patterson’s Ceramic.ai Aims to Transform Enterprise AI Model Building
News Summary
Anna Patterson, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley and former Google VP of Engineering, has launched her latest venture, Ceramic.ai. This startup is set to revolutionize how enterprises build artificial intelligence models by offering foundational AI training infrastructure that enables faster model training with fewer GPUs. Founded in early 2024 with Chief Scientist Tom Costello, Ceramic.ai has already partnered with AWS and Lambda. Despite not generating revenue yet, the company raised a $12 million seed round led by NEA, with participation from IBM, Samsung Next, and Earthshot Ventures. Ceramic.ai’s platform supports long-context training across any cluster size and promises up to 2.5x faster training on Nvidia GPUs for smaller models. Patterson’s approach to this venture is influenced by her experience as a VC investor, emphasizing the importance of early customer feedback. Ceramic.ai faces competition from companies like Together AI and MosaicML but aims to distinguish itself in the fast-evolving market of AI model scaling.
